A Field of Memories
This composition was titled "A Field of Memories" because of my Grandfather. He passed away 8 years ago, and his favorite flower was the Sunflower. He planted them every year, and when we visited this Sunflower field I felt compelled to take a photo to use for this assignment. The sphere warps the field in a way that really does feel surreal, like looking into the past, or a different reality. I really liked the way this turned out and is my favorite of the three, not just because of the story behind the piece, but the colors, leading lines, and horizon of the composition, and the way those features play into the sphere when warped.

Down in the Valley
This photo was taken in the Smokey Mountains, which I visited over the past Spring Break. It is one of my favorite Landscape photos and I thought it would work extremely well in this assignment. I was in love with the way the mountains layered into the back ground with the distortion of the Sphere. The trees acted like some sort of gateway or passage into the warped reality of the sphere, a different lens. The way that the colors created a gradient into the background and inside of the sphere made for an extremely interesting depth effect that makes this my second favorite of the 3.

Whispering Hollows of the Dunes
In this composition, I used a photo I got while visiting my family in Muskegon this past Weekend. The Dunes made for a very interesting distortion, and I purposefully place the sphere off center as it was closer to the foreground and did not disturb the Top horizon line with the sky. I really liked the way this turned out and the shading I added to the sphere also allowed for a good contrast between the spheres circumference and the grassy fore-middle ground of the photo. Although the quality of the photo could have been better, I think I like it's grainy effect, and the way that interacted with the distortion of the sphere.

Polyscapes
Beach Front Rays
I titled this piece Beach Front Rays because the city scape I used for the geometrical features was a photo taken in Muskegon, the same location as the Beach. The Rays being the rays of sun also pierce and overlap the geometric features, and gave a very interesting Leading line effect that added to the overall depth and Layering to this piece, this one is my second favorite of the three.

Palm Alley
When walking in downtown Ann Arbor, I noticed this Alleyway which had hanging aluminum foil pieces blowing in the wind. This art reflected the light in a way that reminded me of the silhouettes I had captured of Palm Trees down in Florida. I combined the two along with twisting the background and creating an overlay, I really liked this effect and the way the the sharp edges of the overlay cut behind the circular shapes of the landscape photo. Overall this was my third favorite of the 3.

Warmth in the Dead of Winter
During my nature walks around Ann Arbor, I found myself in the dead of winter with snow on the ground thinking about Silver Lake Sand Dunes, one of my most favorite places on Earth. It's warmth kept me warm throughout these walks as I remembered the lone trees that stood amongst the dunes just as these snow covered trees stood around me. The contrast between summer and winter, not only in color but in texture Snow/Sand, made for this piece to be my favorite of the 3, and I believe turned out very nicely with the way the Geometric Shapes and overlays clashed with one another. A really nice contrast.
