My Best Photos
‘‘Tower of Hope’’
Every time I see a lighthouse I think of the many stories that lined in each brick, in each panel, and floorboard. The hopes and dreams of many seafarers and lighthouse keepers. The shine of the light that pierces even the thickest fog, rain, and snow. It’s tall picturesque stature that to me has a complimenting juxtaposition to the sandy landscape. The moment I captured in this photo is a peaceful, calm summer afternoon, where the clouds sparsely populated the sky. The angle at which I took the photo gave a sense of Depth and Scale, as I captured the average sized windows, trees/shrubs, and even the name sign of the lighthouse. It vaguely follows the rule of thirds as your eyes are drawn from bottom to top with the left and bottom quadrants holding the center of interest (The lighthouse and attached house). Overall, this is one of my favorite photos. |
‘‘A Whispering Valley’’
This was taken on my trip out west to Arizona, more specifically Sedona, Arizona. The landscape felt surreal to me, like a different world. The position I took the photo from was near ‘‘Liberty Bell Rock’’, which was elevated compared to the Basin of the valley where the city’s downtown was. This made for an amazing Landscape photo that allowed me to capture the majority of the mountain range that was adjacent to the city. A different perspective that made this photo one of my all time favorites. |
‘‘Between Two Lands’’
This photo was taken at the northern tip of Mackinaw City, just east of the Mackinac Bridge. The Sunset illuminated the clouds in a beautiful peachy/red color that reflected off of the semi-turbulent waters that day. The low angle at which I took the photo allowed me to capture a different perspective than one would have whilst standing on the beach. From the small pebbles and rocks, to the endless water, and bridge on the horizon, the transition from foreground to background made for an extremely interesting photo to me. That why it earned it’s place in the top 5 of my favorites. |
‘‘Petals on the Prairie’’
This photo is easily earned it’s place in the top 5 of my favorite photos, as I captured a beautiful Garden Dahlia in full bloom, greeting the sun as it slowly turned upwards from resting throughout the night. The sun and sky presented a clear and open lighting situation, which made for excellent shading on the petals, and leaves of the bush. The sparsely situated clouds also made for an eye appealing background, which complimented the distant trees and other shrubs. The Colors presented in this photos, as well as the position of Interest/Focus, made for one of my favorite Asymmetrical compositions I have captured. |
‘‘A Faded Memory’’
This picture was taken atop the Stone Mountain Monument in Georgia. These rocks were meticulously placed by some passerby that wanted to leave a temporary mark of their presence here. The sharp angles and seemingly gravity defying structure sits atop some rocks sitting in a pond of water. The Fog made the atmosphere surreal, and put the focus on the rock by eliminating a busy background. The Asymmetrical capture of this structure made for a really interesting photo that I personally love, and is why it earned it’s place in the top 5. |

Standing Alone
This was my favorite of all 5 of the photos. I set the scene by placing 2 of the Hexagonal Seats from the Commons on top of each other. The location I chose was predetermined as I really liked the Leading Lines from the perspective at the end of the Hall way. The hanging arch of curved glass panels made for a very interesting warped grid like Background. The way that the sketching rounded out the corners of the statue and walls made for a softer almost ‘‘quiet’’ timbre to the image. The lighting also made it a really interesting picture as you get some reflections caused by the sunlight at the end of the hallway. Overall, these reasons made it the most interesting of the photos I edited.

Embroidery
"What do you See?"
This was the Embroidery project, in which we took a photo that we wanted to work on and incorporated thread into the composition. We did this by poking holes and threading string through in different patterns, and different spacing. I personally really like how this turned out even though there were some set back. (Like having the thread get knotted, or tangled, or caught in the holes), however, in the end I think my vision of drawing attention to the Leading lines and Center of Focus ending up working out.

Twisted Light and Roll World
In this assignment we edit Landscape Photos or Wides hots in Photoshop to resemble Twisted fibers of Light, and the other half to be a 360* "Roll World" view, were the POV centers the focus on the subject in the photo. I used photos that would work the best around a central criteria for a subject, foreground, middle, and background.
